”American Idol” fans likely remember Kristy Lee Cook, a top-10 finisher from season seven back in 2008 who delivered country flair to her performances. The country in Cook – along with her photogenic appearance – are what led to her role in the new Versus hunting and reality show “Goin’ Country”. That hunting has unfortunately set animal rights rodeo clown PETA upon her like a Michael Vick fighting dog. The controversial organization is waiting for Kristy Lee Cook’s full mea culpa.
Kristy Lee Cook has called PETA’s bluff
In a public statement, Kristy Lee Cook did not mince words when it comes to her “Goin’ Country” roots. PETA criticized Cook for not joining “Idol” alums Carrie Underwood, Kellie Pickler and Simon Cowell in their animal rights campaign. Cook, who supports animal rights, fired back at the bully organization. ”Given that hunters have done more for American wildlife conservation than any group in history, I make no apology for being one,” Cook said in a statement to the media. ”Indeed, I join the ranks of millions of American hunters who celebrate our outdoor heritage and who conserve millions of acres of wild lands. These exact same people support more than 600,000 jobs across the country and provide a critical voice to encourage more investment in American conservation”.
She sings, she hunts
”Goin’ Country” gives viewers a slice of the Cook life. ”Kristy Lee Horse Heaven Foundation” is one of her greatest passions. One of the recreational activities depicted within the show is family hunting trips. Throughout, Cook insists that hunting is handled responsibly, with an eye toward conservation and even the role meat can play in an organic diet. ”If I do not take the meat home to my family, then we give it to orphanages or homeless shelters,” Cook assured the public.
Getting meat wise
Meat is valuable to human evolution, something that PETA and other hunting-critical groups tend to ignore. Anthropologist Leslie Aiello notes that when human beings began to eat meat, a major change occurred.”What we think is that this dietary change around 2.3 million years ago was one of the major significant factors in the evolution of our own species,” Aiello said. The use of tools in hunting for and cutting up meat went hand in hand with brain development. Fat and calories from meat were instrumental in human brain growth because of the influx of energy from something other than comparative mass quantities of vegetable. In theory, the more energy-efficient transaction gave brains what they needed to grow larger. The subsequent invention of cooking also helped brain development, as it demands social interaction and division of work.
